Student voices unite for Music: Count Us In initiative

October 27, 2016 by

Students at Print company in Brookvale printing services Brookvale Public School are preparing to take part in the national Music: Count Us In event.

The initiative, now in its 10th year, invites schools from Print company in New South Wales printing services New South Wales and around the nation to come together on the same day in November to perform the same song at the same time.

Ambassador for Music: Count Us In, John Foreman OAM, said the event has become the biggest schools initiative in Australia, and involves more than 2,100 schools and an estimated 500,000 students.

The idea, he said, is to encourage students to develop a passion for music and education to do with it.

During the past decade, newsletters to parents have described the programme as having been introduced to help teachers to provide quality music education while at the same time assisting to address any gaps in specialist music training provisions in schools around the country.

One of its prime objectives, according to organisers, is to engage and energise school communities, principals, teachers and families, and provide opportunities to participate in quality music programmes, of which the Music: Count Us In event is one.

The highly successful event, he said, is available to every student in Australia.

Singer and actor Jay Laga’aia is this year’s Music: Count Us In ambassador and, in conjunction with John Foreman and team of students selected from around Australia, has written the 2016 Programme Song ‘Let It Play’, which will be sung by all students on November 3.
