Dandenong hosts Yolanta Matlakowski exhibition

Printmaker Yolanta Matlakowski will be the subject of an exhibition held at the Walker St. Gallery; the exhibit will run from September 1 to September 27. Matlakowski is best known for her etchings. Those who work for design or print companies in
Dandenong might want to drop by the exhibit, as it is sure to inspire ideas for product design from these current artists as well as a deep appreciation of the work they are doing.
Yolanta Matlakowski is mainly known for her etching. Her work has been described as “dark, some beautiful and all beguiling.” Ms Matlakowski was born in Melbourne and still works and lives in the area; her etchings have been exhibited at various galleries including the Bridget McDonnell Gallery and the Art Gallery of NSW.
The Walker St. Gallery has been described as Dandenong’s visual arts home. Admission to the gallery is free and the hours are Monday to Friday 11 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. The gallery presents a new exhibit every month; subjects exhibited have included well-known Australian artists of all genres, blown glass art, ceramics art, sculpture, printmaking and children’s book illustrators. The gallery also presents artist talks and workshops; one upcoming workshop is a felting workshop. In addition, the gallery presents children’s entertainment and activities such as the Magic Punch and Judy Show during school holidays. The gallery strives to be all things to all people and they seem to have made a success of it.
