Evergreen faces photographic competition
November 22, 2011 by Robyn
Even though Seniors Week has changed its name to the Victorian Seniors Festival, it is still an annual, jam- packed, week-long celebration of older Victorians. The festival offers hundreds of low cost or free events, activities and open forums. To help the festival goers get around, there is also free public transport for holders of a Victorian Seniors Card during the festival to encourage seniors to get out of the house and participating in the celebrations.
One of the cornerstone events of the festival is Evergreen Faces, which has just announced its 24 finalists and award winners for 2011. The idea behind the Evergreen Faces photographic competition is to advocate a positive view of seniors and their lives. The theme of the competition for this year was ‘Getting out and about.’
Neville Goldsmith, from Wantirna south near Scoresby, was one of the finalists with his photograph titled ‘Did you bring the spade?’ a whimsical look at a couple on the beach.
The winner was Lorraine Sinclair from Ballarat with her photograph called ‘Keep climbing those mountains,’ which was a picture of a man framed by beautiful terrain standing on the top of a hill. Her photograph was voted the most popular in the Odyssey Travel People’s Choice Award and she has been awarded a trip to New Zealand courtesy of Odyssey Travel.
All of the finalist’s photographic works were exhibited at the Melbourne Town Hall during Victorian Seniors Week. The exhibition used
printing services in order to show these wonderful pictures off the internet and back on a gallery wall for all to visit and enjoy.
