New campaign to defend paper and print industry
October 31, 2011 by James
A new campaign in support of the paper and printing industries has kicked off in Australia. Two Sides Australia is looking to enlist the support of paper and print companies from around Australia to defend its actions to the broader community.
A meeting of the leading industry figures took place in Sydney to discuss the latest campaign. It was attended by Martin Eustace who is the director of Two Sides UK and opened by John Walker – managing director of paper company SAAPI Australia. Walker said:
“The world sees us as a destructive and wasteful industry. Printing and paper gets the raw end of the deal. It is up to us to combat these perceptions in a straightforward and honest way,”
Two Sides Australia will address the perceived environmental issues with Walker saying:
“We must be factual and authoritative in exploring the myths surrounding the industry while setting out the facts.”
However, he recognised that “paper usage will always come under scrutiny,” he said:
“The environmental debate is too complex to simplify, too emotive to take lightly and too serious if we get it wrong.”
Two Sides has received support from many companies, industries and associations across Europe and the UK, with a new branch recently established in the US. It commissions reports and surveys about how paper is used and the perceptions around the printing industry.
Two Sides Australia is encouraging paper and print companies, from brochure printers to stationary printers, in Slack Creek and around Australia to join this latest campaign.
