New shopping complex planned for Moorabbin airport

Moorabbin is a small suburb in Melbourne. Many people would be surprised to learn that the area houses an airport. This airport generally deals with light aircraft and pilot training. Due to this, many people feel that it will not be commercially viable in the future. The airport hopes to change this by opening a large shopping complex in the area. The complex will include stores such as Coles, First Choice Liquor and Kmart. Officials hope to open the store in mid-2014.

It is important to note that many people are opposed to the idea. Local residents of the area have dealt with the noise associated created by this airport for many years. Some residents would prefer the airport was shut down altogether. A new shopping complex would increase both traffic and noise levels. However it is likely that plans for this center will go ahead regardless of complaints. The reality is that the airport cannot operate on the revenue derived from aviation activities alone.

While residents may be unhappy about the building plan there are some advantages to having a new mall in the area. The development is expected to generate 500 direct and indirect jobs.

This complex will mean that advertising, marketing and print companies will be fairly busy in the coming years. Both the center and individual businesses will need to aggressively market their new location. This will likely take the form of utilizing printing services and handing out flyers. Other methods of marketing used may include social networking, television advertisements and radio spots.
