$250m commercial precinct proposed for North Lakes

A decision by Moreton Bay Regional Council on a proposal for the establishment of a $250m commercial precinct in North Lakes is expected in time for the new year.

The Laguna North Lakes commercial precinct proposal, lodged by Wolter Consulting Group for siting on council-owned land that covers 75 Lakefield Drive, 10 The Corso and 28-40 North Lakes Drive, incorporates a convention centre, commercial services, catering premises, hotel, shop, restaurant, office, occasional market, licensed club and indoor recreation area.

In a report, council planners described the project as:

“a high-quality mixed-use development.”

According to the report, the aim of the proposal is to introduce a unique experience in the heart of North Lakes through the establishment of a dining, boutique retail and lifestyle precinct.

“The tallest buildings include the hotel and function centre and the commercial office towers (six storeys) which front The Corso and North Lakes Drive respectively.”

A graphic design for the development indicates the integration of a multi-level carpark in the basement with the existing council library carpark.

If approved, the development is to be built in four stages with the start of construction required to take place within six years, according to the report.

The report put forward a recommendation that the development be approved, subject to conditions and amendments, which included a taxi rank designed to cater for vehicles picking up people with disabilities.
