80th anniversary of Hollywood cinema in Randwick

August 1, 2017 by

One of Randwick’s icons, the Ritz Cinema, is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, and in keeping with its usual fare, the celebrations will take the form of Sunday afternoon and Wednesday morning screenings of classical films from the golden age of Hollywood.

The films include classics such as ‘The Graduate’, which celebrates its 50th anniversary, this year, and perennial favourites such as ‘All About Eve’, ‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘North by Northwest.’

The Ritz opened in July 1937 and, as one of only two Art Deco cinemas left in Sydney, it is now a heritage listed building. In addition to the original main auditorium, another five cinemas have been added in the last two decades. This independent, family-owned and family-run venue has been able to keep ticket prices low and competitive, at $10 for general public and $8 for Ritz Royalty club members.

A visit to this lovely old cinema is the perfect way to celebrate the movies of yesteryear, and the cinema can cater to the needs of anyone who wishes to plan a personal or business event. Nearby print shops will be able to provide memorable corporate gifts and presentation folders for any occasion.

The Ritz is located at 45 St Paul’s Street, Randwick. Details of the Hollywood classical screenings can be found on the Ritz Cinema website.
