Fun activities planned to celebrate Seniors Week

Seniors Week on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland looks set to be an enjoyable and fun-filled time for all participants.

Signs have already been erected in Council venues across the region to advertise events ranging from dance workshops hosted by Queensland Ballet, to a host of morning teas and recreational pursuits.

This year Sunshine Coast Council has joined with other members of the local community to present an extensive programme of events and activities, highlighting the theme of Creating a Queensland for All Ages.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the contribution of seniors on a daily basis to community initiatives, the economy and caring for the environment was invaluable.

He said it is apt that the contribution is being celebrated, and explained:

“Seniors Week provides a very powerful opportunity for council and the community to appropriately acknowledge our seniors and what they add to the vibrancy of the Sunshine Coast.”

He added:

“Whether it involves offering business advice based on a lifetime of experience, volunteering in a community organisations, helping out in the extended family by caring for grandchildren, our region is a richer place for the efforts of our seniors.”

In addition to the dance workshops and high teas, Sunshine Coast Libraries have also organised teas in mornings and afternoons and, according to the Mayor, there will also be many other fun events on offer.

Seniors Week will be held from August 19 to 27.
