Artists invited to design Australia Day Award trophy

Artists from Maroochydore and throughout the Sunshine Coast Council area are being invited to put their graphic design and artistic skills to the test for the 10th anniversary of the Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards.

Councillor Jenny McKay said the event represents a way to celebrate the contribution and achievement of community organisations and individuals in the region. She said:

“Each year we are honoured to present our Australia Day Award recipients with a unique trophy to recognise their achievements and outstanding contribution to the community.”

Cr. McKay said that for the past five years, the trophies have been works of art by talented local artists, adding:

“We know they will be treasured by the Australia Day Award recipients for a lifetime.”

Council is now seeking submissions of design concepts for the 2018 award trophy from local artists, and artists should consult the council website for full details on how to apply. As well as their design concept, they will need to give a breakdown of projected timescales and costs to complete it.

The judging panel will consist of industry members, with the ultimate winner to be notified in October.

The 2018 Sunshine Coast Australia day Awards nominations will open on September 12, and must be submitted by December 4 to be considered for the 10th annual awards. Entries can be submitted to events@sunshinecoast
