Multimillion-dollar upgrade to pave way for venue to host more major events

Residents from Caboolture and throughout the Moreton Bay region are set to benefit from a $7.8m upgrade at the Morayfield Sports and Event Centre (MSEC).

Scheduled to be completed in 2019, the work will see the centre double in size to a massive 7000sqm, with the introduction of two indoor multipurpose courts and a modular events space to cater for trade shows and conferences.

Moreton Bay Council Mayor Allan Sutherland announced the upgrade recently, saying the new-look venue, when completed, would help attract many more major trade shows and sporting events to the area. He said:

“Our region is fast becoming a top destination for major sports events like the recent JLT Cup AFL matches at Burpengary and the Commonwealth Rugby League Championship at Redcliffe, and we want to replicate that success with indoor sports and events.”

Included in the upgrade will be the establishment of retractable seating to cater for over 1,000 spectators, the introduction of commercial kitchen space, and new amenities and change rooms.

In addition to an expected boost in demand for local banner printing and other marketing activity, the upgrade will generate many job opportunities for locals during its construction, according to the mayor.

Councillor Adrian Raedel said carrying out the upgrade will allow the ever-increasing number of community and sporting groups to be accommodated well into the future.

Work is due to commence on the project in May this year.
