Chance to design a Mascot for Paint Rockingham REaD

May 16, 2018 by

Paint Rockingham REaD is a literacy program in the City of Rockingham, WA, which aims to encourage locals to read to their children from birth. Children who have been read to from an early age have more developed social, cognitive and emotional skills and perform better at school.

The program will be launched at Pyjama Storytime, at the Rockingham Central Library, this month. This event is part of National Simultaneous Storytime and this year’s featured book will be Hickory, Dickory Dash by Laura Wood. Pyjamas are required and there will be marshmallows and plenty of magical stories. Bookings are essential, parents and grandparents, friends and relations are all welcome.

The City of Rockingham has launched a competition to design a mascot for the Paint Rockingham REaD campaign, and has invited all Year 5 and 6 students who live in Rockingham to submit designs.
An entry form can be downloaded from the council website and children must have the permission of a parent or guardian to enter. The mascot should appeal to children and must have a connection with the City of Rockingham, such as a local native animal. The winning entry will be used for logo design and to create an actual mascot, which will be used throughout the campaign.

All entries for the design competition must be received at any City of Rockingham library by 5:00 pm on May 24.
