Heathmont’s multi-sports complex on track

The Maroondah City Council allocated $16.5m in its 2018/19 budget for the operational readiness planning, and construction of the HE Parker Multi-Sports Complex. Funding grants pledged from the State and Federal governments for the project amount to a total of $13.5m.

The new complex is within Heathmont’s existing HE Parker sports area and uses the existing netball court footprint to maximise retention and protection of native trees. The complex is envisioned to provide upgraded netball facilities, including four indoor courts, with grandstand seating for 310 people and additional courtside seating for up to 360 more spectators.

The complex will also house facilities for volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and wheelchair sports. The Melbourne East Netball Association (MENA) will call the facility home.

Construction started on 15 March 2018 and works are currently running on schedule. The concrete installation for the four new indoor courts is complete. Work on the outdoor courts are ongoing.

Works progress is expected as per the construction schedule include:

• Superstructure construction, including steel frames, roof installation, and cladding, of the building to continue for the rest of this year
• Internal work and fit out to finish in December 2018
• Outdoor courts construction continues in parallel with the building construction
• Landscaping and parking facilities complete in early 2019

Once completed, it is expected that the complex will host various events. Opportunities to advertise within the complex will be available. A suitable logo design and other promotional products displayed on site will certainly increase awareness for businesses when the complex is finished.

The Maroondah City Council estimates project completion by end of February 2019.
