Celebrate Kingston in annual photography contest

Video and camera buffs from Braeside and throughout the City of Kingston are being invited to enter this year’s OptiKA photography competition.

The annual event provides an opportunity to showcase specific landmarks and areas of Kingston, some of which have already been the focus of promotional products and postcards in the past.

The competition, according to Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos, gives talented artists a chance to celebrate Kingston. He said:

“This year, photographers and video-makers will present scenes from Kingston that respond to the theme Architecture, space and home.”

Mayor Staikos urged everyone to enter and said there was an impressive list of prizes to be won in each of the categories.

To mark the competition’s 10 year anniversary, organisers of the City of Kingston OptiKA photography competition (previously known as LensMist), have included a category aimed at video-makers.

Prizes will include $5,000 for Best Photograph, $1,000 for People’s Choice Award, $1,000 for the Portrait Award and $500 for the Video Award.

In December, locals and visitors will have an opportunity to view the entries which will be on display at Kingston Arts Centre’s G1 and G2. The entries will also be on show at The Makers Festival to be held at DFO Moorabbin, a major sponsor, in May next year.

The annual OptiKA Competition entries are open and will be received until 5pm on October 1. For further information, visit the Council’s website.
