Urban farm tour comes to Sydney

November 5, 2018 by

Pocket City Farms will open its gates to visitors next month for an urban farm tour. Milperra residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about this innovative operation.

The urban farm at Camperdown Commons was opened in June 2016 at the former site of the abandoned Camperdown Bowling Club. The goal of the not-for-profit organisation is to bring urban farms to Sydney’s unused spaces.

The former bowling greens have been converted to grow herbs, vegetables and salad greens using organic practices. Seedlings are grown in the greenhouse and a composting unit is used to turn over food scraps from restaurants and cafes that are supplied by the farm. The farm is home to chickens, bees, a produce stall, community food forest and a demo garden.

Visitors to the farm tour will enjoy a journey around the space and a chat about the benefits of urban farming, farming methods and daily operations.

Throughout the year the farm hosts a wide range of events, workshops, chats, tours, crop swaps, yoga, kids’ activities and more. Flyer printing services can sometimes be engaged to promote events and activities like these. Pocket City Farms have recently opened an online produce store.

The Urban Farm is located at Camperdown Commons, 31A Mallett St, Camperdown. Additional information about the November 7 farm tour and tickets for the event are available on the Pocket City Farms website and Facebook page.
