OptiKA Award winners for Best Video, Portrait and Photograph will be announced as part of the highlights of this year’s Kingston Makers Festival.

Participants vied for prizes worth up to $4,000 in the major competition which was open to and attracted entries from throughout Kingston including Braeside. Winning entries will form part of the OptiKA Kingston Photographic Awards and Exhibition to be held at the Kingston Arts Centre from December 2 to January 12.

The awards are just one of many features of the 2018 Makers Festival which has become a much anticipated opportunity for many to shop for Christmas. According to organisers, the festival will be bigger than previous years and will showcase more than 80 top quality artisan stalls.

Businesses, which have become familiar to locals through flyer printing and other marketing campaigns, will also be represented including Cornutopia and the White Guy Cooks Thai.

The festival, to be held on December 2 from 2pm-7pm, will also feature a live performance by the Trash Puppets in ‘Escape from Trash Mountain’ which involves the use of 17 handmade puppets that do battle with hideous trash monsters to save the world.

Festival visitors will also have an opportunity to work with a number of local Aboriginal artists using contemporary and natural fibres to create bush sculpture, take part in a Guru Dudo Silent Disco and enjoy the music of several performers including soulfunk band Jakal, Gypsy band Vardo and 2017 Voice finalist Sarah Stone.
