New diner wants to give people happy days

Happy Days Donuts is the newest place to eat on Croydon’s Main Street. Locals Michael Rowe and Marcus Sampson aim to make Happy Days one of the most fun places on the shopping strip.

After much hype on social media, the 50s-style diner opened on Saturday 3rd November. The Rockin’ Tones were in attendance, playing popular 50s tunes and there was rock and roll dancing on the pavement outside. The diner’s green and pink 50s era décor includes memorabilia and a jukebox, which is acknowledged in the logo design and on its menus.

Rowe told the Maroondah Leader:

“We don’t want people to buy their food and then leave, we want them to come in, eat in, look at everything and enjoy the atmosphere.”

Specialising in donuts as the name suggests, the Happy Days menu also offers muffins, cakes, slices and waffles, coffee and speciality milkshakes. It also has gluten-free donuts and waffles and vegan options. The gluten-free donuts have been so popular that on at least one day, the diner ran out of stock. One reviewer on Zomato, disappointed to miss out on the gluten free donuts, tried the waffle pops and said the caramel flavour waffle was ‘to die for’.

Happy Days Diner is at 93 Main Street, Croydon and is open from 10am-4pm each day.
