Visual storytellers display art

Ripples in the Open, an art exhibition by Louise Jennison and Gracia Haby is now open at ArtSpace at Realm.

The free exhibition is open to Heathmont residents and specially created workshops have also been scheduled.

Attendees will experience a 15m long, ceiling height printed landscape collage. The artists’ website invites the audience to:

“walk through Ripples in the Open, like Lewis Carroll’s Alice who ‘know[s] this is ‘our’ world, yet everything looks different”, you will see floating into frame, like bubbles, 10 taxidermied specimens that are suspended inside lenticular orbs in representation of each animal’s particular umwelt or individually perceived world”.

The artists Gracia and Louise create zines, artists’ books, prints, collages and drawings primarily using paper. Banner printing and poster printing services are sometimes used to promote art exhibitions.

The workshops that will be held over the course of the exhibition include Magical Miniature Painting with artist Nusra Latif Qureshi, Zine Making with Gracia Haby and Louise Jennison and Crafty Basket Making with Vicki Fowler.

Maroondah council recently commissioned Gracia and Louise to create the work ‘A Weight of Albatross’ which combines sustainability with kinetic sculpture. This public artwork has been installed above the stairwell void at Realm.

The Ripples in the Open exhibition will run until Sunday 27th January 2019. Workshop bookings are essential, further details can be found on the Maroondah City Council website.
