Young sports enthusiasts are being encouraged to take part in a special sports day to be held at Alexandria Park.

The event is one of many activities planned by the City of Sydney to keep young adults and children active during the annual autumn school holiday break, and will include badminton, soccer, basketball, wheelchair sports and tennis, along with medals and prizes.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said an extensive programme of sporting activities, day trips and fun workshops has been put together to cater for all ages from five to 18. He said:

“For their mental and physical wellbeing, young people need to balance the amount of time they spend online with real connections and experiences.”

The Lord Mayor said the extensive list of activities, which is traditionally advertised on council’s website and via flyer printing at local libraries, includes something to suit every budget and every child. He added:

“We want to see young people in the city realise their potential and make a valuable contribution to our community.”

The School holiday programme, which runs from April 13 to 30, was put together by the City of Sydney’s library staff and members of the Youth and Children Services teams.

It will feature a host of event programmes including Makerspace workshops for 5-to-8-year-olds, Little Bits for 8 to 12 years, Steady Hand Game for 10 years and older, and Youth in the City for 12-to-18-year-olds.
