Clifton Hill residents are recognising women’s achievements at events to be held as part of 2018 International Women’s Day.

The six-day celebration, no doubt the subject of flyer printing in the local area, will feature a number of events, including Yarra Council’s presentation of the 2018 Inspirational Women of Yarra Award.

A Council spokesman said the award, which will be presented on March 8 at the Richmond Town Hall in Bridge Road at 10:30am, is open to groups or individual women who have put their time and efforts into helping the Yarra community through volunteering, inspirational leadership, and both unpaid and paid work.

He said there is still time to be considered for the award with nominations closing on February 19.

The special awards morning tea will also be attended by the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton together with Yarra’s Young Women and Gender Diverse DJ Collective who will perform.

Other highlights of the day will include a showcase of photography and art by Ria Ganis, delicious food supplied by Kinfolk, and amazing wares made available by Sisterworks.

The International Women’s Day celebrations will be held from March 5 to 11 and the spokesman said Council will be hosting several community events.

These will include women in business events, fashion shows, women’s and girls’ sports clinics, art exhibitions, DJ performances, panel discussions, and guest speakers.
