Melbourne business owners, entrepreneurs, start-ups and companies are being urged to take up an opportunity to showcase their operations on an international stage.

The City of Melbourne is seeking people interested in the 2018 Lord Mayor’s Business Mission to China and Japan, where it will present the best businesses on offer in Melbourne.

These will cover many fields, including general aviation, urban sustainability, health and life sciences, and innovation.

The biennial Business Mission, to be led by Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, will take in Suzhou, Wuxi, Beijing and Tianjin in China, as well as Osaka in Japan. Mayor Doyle said:

“This Business Mission will expose Melbourne companies to potential global investors and business partners by providing a foot in the door to the Asian market.

“It’s not only about showcasing and building relationships with Japan and China, but more importantly about getting contracts signed and trade happening with Melbourne-based companies.”

The Mayor said previous business missions had produced some great results for companies that had taken part, employing everything from brochure printing to high-level presentations with key market leaders.

Stephen Evans, of Leffler Simes Architects, was among the success stories being able to secure a contract with one of China’s biggest furniture stores.

Applications, which close on November 30, should include why each entity would like to travel to China and Japan as part of the Mission, as well as a short business profile and what they believe is their competitive advantage.
