Applications welcomed for 2019 Artist in Residence

Established and emerging artists from Box Hill South and across the City of Whitehorse are being invited to apply for the 2019 Artist in Residence programme.

The opportunity being extended to talented community members at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre (BHCAC) is offered each year, according to organisers.

Councillor Sharon Ellis said the winning applicant will be based in the centre’s Artists’ Loft or Garden Room for a full year.

She said the successful applicant for the 2019 programme will be able to utilise the facilities to put together a special project to not only benefit the centre, but also the artists themselves, as well as the local community.

Cr. Ellis said that in previous years the coveted Artist in Residence programme had attracted an impressive array of artists incorporating a variety of skills such as installation art, textiles, collage and painting.

In addition, the selected artist can also look forward to mounting their own solo exhibition as part of the centre’s scheduled showings which are regularly advertised via brochure printing. Cr. Ellis added:

“This is a great chance for an artist to get to know the local community and to take advantage of the centre’s professional exhibition space, vibrant arts scene, accomplished tutors on site and fabulous studio complete with storage.”

Wednesday, July 27 is the deadline for applications with further information available on the art centre’s website.
