Artists hone in on Modern Life for annual exhibition

Modern-themed artworks are the focus of this year’s annual City of Maroondah Mayoral Art Exhibition.

Residents from Heathmont and throughout the city are being invited to view the exhibition and also to attend the official unveiling of the 2017 Bendigo Bank and Mayoral Acquisitions set to take place on December 9.

The theme ‘Modern Life’ was requested for this year’s artworks, with artists invited to explore themes and ideas that moved away from traditional styles in the areas of portraiture, landscape, sculpture, photography and architecture.

According to Mayor Nora Lamont, the event has been an impressive and popular fundraiser for many years.

“The annual Mayoral Art Exhibition supports a fantastic cause, the Bone Marrow Donor Institute. The institute facilitates the donations and transplants that help the many Australians each year who are diagnosed with leukaemia and other fatal blood disorders.”

Cr. Lamont said a highlight of the exhibition is not only its contribution to a worthy cause but also the sitting Mayor’s selection of artwork for inclusion into Council’s Art Collection.

In addition, an artwork is chosen from the finalists for acquisition by the Ringwood East and Heathmont Community Bendigo Bank.

Hosted by the Maroondah Access Gallery at Maroondah Federation Estate and advertised via banner printing and brochures, the display will be on show until December 16.

The exhibition can be viewed between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm weekdays and 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
