The creative talents of artists from around Australia, including Brookvale and throughout the Northern Beaches, area are set to be showcased as part of this year’s Northern Beaches Art Prize.

Northern Beaches Council are now calling for entries in the major Art Prize which has an estimated $24,000 of prizes up for grabs.

The art competition, which is the most prestigious event of its kind in the region, is set to uncover some great creative talents, according to Northern Beaches General Manager Planning, Place and Community, David Kerr.

While the competition is open to residents from around the nation, he said, it also provided an opportunity to showcase local talent.

This year’s entrants will compete in four main categories including Youth, Waste to Art, Small Sculpture and General.

Suzanne Davey, who won the sculpture award in 2017, said the prize helped boost her artistic endeavours following many years of developing ideas, experimenting and creating. She said:

“It was really affirming and shows that hard work, application and focus does pay. It gave me a feeling of validation and that I was on the right path; the journey continues.”

It is expected some entries may also appear on brochure printing to promote major displays of Art Prize works scheduled for August 10-19 (Small Sculpture and General) and August 24-Sept 2 (Waste to Art and Youth) at the Creative Space.

Entries close June 24.
