Artworks on show in two Rockingham centres

The City of Rockingham Art Awards Exhibition will take place in two venues this month. Since submissions opened in November last year, 70 entries have been accepted.

Prizes range between $1,500 and $5,000, and will be awarded across six categories. All entrants will be eligible for the Open category, and split between Heritage, Indigenous, Emerging, Local Resident, and the Robert Carter Youth Award.

Judging will take place today, May 5, and the exhibition will open to the public the following day. A seventh category, the People’s Choice Award, allows visitors to the exhibition to vote for their favourite artwork, and the artist who receives the most votes will be awarded $250. Those who vote will also be in line to win $250.

The exhibition is expected to draw large crowds, and will provide opportunities for local printing services, for the production of advertising flyers, brochures and catalogues. The exhibition, which is free to view, will be open between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday to Friday.

The two venues for the exhibition are within walking distance of each other in Kent Street: the Gary Holland Community Centre, number 19, is a popular venue for hire, and the Rockingham Arts Centre, number 11, was built to provide local artists with a place to conduct their artistic endeavours.
