A Darra resident is celebrating success in the United States after his debut song proved popular with music fans.

Shanon Watkins wrote and performed the song One By One, which debuted at number two in the Top 20 Radio Dance Club Chart in America this month. While it was not quite the top spot, Mr Watkins’ song did chart above more established artists such as Katy Perry. The song also hit number five in the Top 30 Radio Chart Breakers countdown.

The success comes after KlubJumpers, an award-winning production team from the US, remixed the track. The musician said it was the realisation of a long held dream and thanked his Brisbane-based record company Go2 Records for its help.

The managing director of Go2 Records, Michael Walker, said the success was a fantastic result for the company. He said:

“As a small Brisbane record label and this being our first go at the American market, we had hoped we would realise some kind of chart interest, but this result is a very pleasant surprise."

KlubJumpers will also remix Mr Watkins’ second single and the singer hopes to embark on a tour of the United States soon to try to build on the song’s popularity.

Poster printing is a popular way to promote live gigs and Mr Watkins could soon see his face adorning posters outside concert venues across America.
