Award-winning songwriter brings show to Randwick

Randwick residents have the opportunity to enjoy a Swamp-Folk Operetta from Keppie Coutts, an award-winning songwriter and singer.

The central character of the Mysteries of Mad River is a deranged but loveable primary school teacher in a town where children mysteriously disappear. The show combines cabaret with murder mystery and was part of the 2017 Sydney Fringe Festival.

Coutts is well-known on the Sydney music scene where she has performed at many of the city’s most popular live music venues. She moved to Boston in the US as a student at Berklee College of Music, where she went on to teach in the songwriting department. Coutts has now returned home to Sydney and teaches at the Australian Institute of Music.

In the Mysteries of Mad River Coutts takes the audience into the riotous and dark world of the characters of the town. The show is beautifully costumed and the music is a swampy, honky-tonk sound with blues-folk narratives.

The show will be performed for one night only at Randwick Town Hall on Friday November 30th. Tickets are $20 each and are available through Eventbrite. If not sold beforehand there may be some tickets available at the door. There is no reserved seating so audience-members are encouraged to arrive early. Doors will open at 6pm.

Shows like this often use poster printing to create eye-catching promotional material.
