Bargains galore as locals join the Garage Sale Trail

Caringbah and neighbouring suburbs throughout the Sutherland Shire are preparing for this year’s huge Garage Sale Trail.

Described as Australia’s biggest recycle and reuse experiment, the annual event has been extended to run from one day to an entire weekend in October.

The Garage Sale Trail provides an opportunity for locals to grab a bargain or, alternatively find a good home for old household items that have been cluttering up the shed or garage.

Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmelo Pesce said schools, local business, charities, community groups and households across the shire will combine with about 350,000 other Australians in listing more than two million separate items for sale for the big event, being held for the seventh year. He said:

“Council is committed to continuing the war on waste and are proud to support the Garage Sale Trail as they prove once again that one person’s trash really can be another person’s treasure, and that there’s a buyer out there for every seller.”

The event, according to the Mayor, reflects Council’s commitment to safeguard the natural environment by limiting the degree of material that goes to landfill and spreading the word about the importance of reducing consumption of resources.

In addition to flyer printing to advise residents of this year’s Garage Sale Trail, to be held on October 21 and 22, Council has posted registration and other details on its website.
