Battle of the Bands to rock Boroondara

Time is running out for bands who want to boost their chances of rock stardom in Victoria.

The Boroondara stage of the Victoria Battle of the Bands competition takes place next month and entries close in a few weeks.

The contest gives local bands, including those from Hawthorn, the opportunity to perform on a big stage and be watched by industry professionals. Boroondara’s Mayor, Councillor Jack Wegman, said the competition was a great opportunity for young musicians.

“There must be hundreds of bands in Boroondara, practising in anonymity behind garage doors,” he said. “This long-running competition gives bands across the City an opportunity to be recognised and it could be the impetus they need to take the leap from the garage to the stage.”

To enter the competition, groups need to contact Boroondara council’s youth services department for an application form and send it in along with a link to some of their material. The regional heat will be happening on Friday May 24th, when bands will be given the chance to play live in front of three music industry experts to see if they have what it takes.

The winners will progress to a regional final for a chance to take part in the Push Over Festival, where the overall winner will be decided. The eventual winners stand to win a range of prizes to help them on their way to stardom. The prizes up for grabs include a recording session at Hothouse Studios, poster printing for a publicity campaign and a professional photo shoot. Entries close on Monday April 29th.
