Residents from Heathmont and throughout the City of Maroondah will have a rare opportunity to hear from one of the Mars One astronaut candidates during 2017 BizWeek.

As Maroondah 2017 Bizweek guest speaker, Dianne McGrath is set to wow audience members as she speaks about what inspired her to apply for inclusion as an astronaut in what will be the first human expedition to planet Mars.

A spokesman for Maroondah City Council said:

“From the more than 200,000 people worldwide to apply for a one-way ticket to the red planet – set to blast off in 2031 – only 100 candidates remain in the running. Dianne is one of them.”

He said Dianne has a fascinating background that incorporates all her various skills and roles, which have included influential public speaker, experimenter, blogger, PhD researcher in Environmental Engineering, self-proclaimed biohacker and sustainability consultant. The spokesperson added:

“She is a leader, team player, project manager and creative problem solver, subscribing to her own personal theory that ‘if you see life as an experiment, it gives you permission to fail, to succeed and to learn’.”

Dianne’s photograph has also appeared on promotional brochures as a motivational speaker at major events attracting up to 250,000 people.

The spokesman said the 2017 BizWeek Eastland Experience – ‘from Ordinary to Extraordinary’ on August 7 at Hoyts Eastland, was an ideal opportunity to hear why Dianne wants to travel the one-way ride to Mars, and how everyone as individuals can lead extraordinary lives and make a real difference.
