Brisbane set to light up with festive fun and cheer

Christmas will be celebrated with a huge programme of events to be enjoyed by all ages in Brisbane this year.

Milton residents are ideally positioned with a host of entertainment and free activities just a short walk away.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the Christmas in Brisbane event will not only be fun for all involved but also help to stimulate activity within the retail sector, buoyed by an expected increase in people visiting the CBD to experience the festive season atmosphere.

In 2016, the festive events staged at Roma Street Parkland, South Bank and across the CBD in Brisbane welcomed nearly 700,000 visitors, and the Mayor expects 2017 to be even more successful.

A time that sees festive banner printing aplenty, Cr. Quirk said traditional features, including the huge Christmas Tree in King George Square, will be prominently displayed and will include the special `lighting’ ceremony to be conducted this Saturday, November 25. He added:

“New solar technology will power 8000 LED lights with a new LED star and even a new in-built soundtrack, all designed and built by Queensland-based business LitePix.”

As has become tradition, top entertainment will feature at the Riverstage for the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols.

Other events will include the Christmas Parade on the Queen Street Mall, an animated and narrated Christmas story at City Hall, Christmas Movies in the Park and, in the final days leading up to Christmas, South Bank will come alive with a Christmas Village.
