Call for greater use of picturesque riverfront

An initiative for a pool to be established on the riverfront in Putney, near Gladesville has been proposed by a team of community leaders.

Previous Citizen of the Year nominee in Ryde, Bec Ho, is among those seeking to establish a `beach’ pool where people could relax, swim and enjoy the advantages of life on the shores of the Parramatta River.

Ho said an outdoor recreation and swimming spot would be ideal for Putney, pointing out:

“A lot of the other parts of the Parramatta River are busy with restaurants and parks and things you can do. You could have a café there and make it a social hub.”

The idea won the support of Parramatta River Catchment Group chairman and Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale, who said:

“I would welcome any measure that would make the waterfront more accessible to families living in our city.”

He add that making the waterfront an active place for public recreation, whether it be a safe splash area or a filtered pool, is something he is keen to see reach fruition.

While the proposal has not reached the graphic design stage, the chance of establishing a pool at Putney Park or nearby Kissing Point Park is a concept seriously being considered by members of the Parramatta River Catchment Group, according to Laxale.
