Cash prizes on offer for keen photographers

March 3, 2014 by

There is not much time left for keen Brisbane photographers to stake their claim for a prize in the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.

The annual competition offers cash prizes to the best photographers in the area and includes three categories. Entries should capture Brisbane’s creative side. They can be taken around the central city or in suburbs such as Chermside, but must have been taken since January 2013.

The winner of the Open Category will receive $10,000, and the recipient of the People’s Choice Award will win $1,000. A Tertiary Category is open to current or former students in photography or a related subject, who have studied at a Brisbane institution. The winner will receive $2,000 and may be offered a year-long contract to take pictures of Brisbane events. The winning images may also be used in council marketing and public displays in the city.

Winners in the Open and Tertiary categories will be selected by a judging panel based on creativity and originality. The People’s Choice Award will be decided by an online vote from a selection of chosen images.

Printing services will also be used to enable one voter to receive a framed high quality print of the winning image.

Entries for the competition close on Monday March 10th and the winners will be announced in May. For full details and entry forms, visit www.lmpa.brisbane.qld.gov.au.
