Chance for Rockingham seniors to learn photography skills

The City of Rockingham will hold a free photography workshop for seniors, to help them improve their photography skills.

Local professional photographer Kingsley Klau will present the workshop and will discuss the Rockingham PhotoVoice competition and its theme, Act-Belong-Commit. The workshop will be held on Thursday, July 19 at the Autumn Centre in McNicholl St, Rockingham.

The PhotoVoice competition is open to local amateur photographers and is supported by Healthway, local businesses and the City of Rockingham. Entrants can submit up to three photographs. Each image should be accompanied by a ‘voice’; a sentence or short paragraph, up to 25 words, explaining the picture. Entries are made online and all costs for printing services, framing, and exhibiting will be covered by the PhotoVoice project. Entries can be submitted until 4:00 pm on Friday, August 17.

There are two categories of photographic style, modified or unmodified, and four age categories; children 12 years and under, teens from 13 to 17 years, adult from 18 to 59 years, and seniors from 60 years. Photographs can also be entered in a separate category under the theme ‘Standing Strong Together’.

An exhibition of entries will be held at the Gary Holland Community Centre for three weeks from Tuesday, September 18. During the exhibition visitors will be able to vote for a ‘public choice’ award. There will be cash or voucher prizes awarded in each category.
