Chance to get magazine experience in Kingston

March 20, 2014 by

Budding journalists and designers from Braeside have the chance to get experience on a local magazine.

The Kingston Youth Services Supplement magazine is run by the Kingston Youth Services and covers the whole City of Kingston, including Braeside. The magazine, which is aimed at 12 to 15-year-olds, is written and designed by young people and published several times a year.

There are currently a number of volunteer opportunities available with the magazine for writers, journalists and graphic designers. Writers and journalists would be expected to contribute articles and other pieces for the publication, while the designers would be responsible for adding the finishing touches to the pages.

The positions have the option of working in a person’s own time as a contributor or joining the magazine’s committee, which also includes fortnightly meetings to help set the direction of the issues and plan for the future.

The positions are voluntary, but would be a good way of building a portfolio for anyone who would like to work in these industries in the future.

There is likely to be strong competition for the places, so applicants might like to think about employing a professional printing company to create high-quality copies of their work to show their skills to their best advantage.

Applications close on Friday April 4th. For more information, see the Kingston City Council website.
