Chance to support young athletes in Lake Macquarie

Businesses in Belmont are being encouraged to get behind the International Children’s Games being staged in December.

Lake Macquarie is the first city in the Southern Hemisphere ever to host the games, which will see around 5,000 people come to the area. The Games, which are endorsed by the International Olympic Committee, are open to young people aged between 12 and 15 and are often a stepping stone to an Olympic appearance. Around 70 countries have signed up to take part in this year’s event.

Local businesses are being urged to help to make the event a success by supporting one of the athletes or even one of the cities taking part. Sponsorship will help to fund accommodation and transport for the athletes during the two-week event, and for ceremonies throughout the games.

Companies that get behind the scheme will receive promotional material from the council, and might also like to think about using a print company to create merchandise featuring the fact that they are supporting the games.

Anyone who sponsors a city will also get additional options, such as the chance to present a medal, provide information to be featured in welcome packs and reserved seating at the opening ceremony.

The Games take place between Saturday 6th December and Thursday 11th December. For more information about sponsorship opportunities, contact the Lake Macquarie City Council.
