Christmas cheer coming to Kingston

Businesses in Moorabbin's shopping village are being encouraged to get into the festive spirit by entering Kingston City Council's annual Christmas window display competition.

Any business with a shop front in the area can enter the contest, with prizes on offer for the three best windows.

Prizes include cash and promotion by the council, while the company with the best window will also receive a free visit by a visual marketing expert to help with its long-term strategy.

To enter, businesses must register and then send in a photograph of their decorated display, which will be judged on colour, creativity, and visual impact. Shops could ask a print company to help them create a dramatic backdrop for their window as part of their entry.

To inspire shop owners, the council has organised a visual marketing workshop on Tuesday, November 10th, with marketing expert Jennie Kelly. She will talk about how to create a Christmas display easily, and on a budget. She will give examples of equipment and materials, and all participants will receive a handout with tips they can use for their own windows.

The contest runs from Monday, November 23, to Tuesday, December 15, and the winners will be announced on the council's website on Monday, December 21. The workshop is free, but places must be booked in advance through Kingston City Council.

Melbourne Music Week runs from Friday, November 13 to Friday, November 20. The full programme can be found on the Festival website.
