Comic play coming to Werribee

A comic drama is to be staged in Werribee during this month.

‘Calendar Girls’ is a play about women who raise money for charity. Based on a true story about the bravery of ordinary English women, it tells the story of when one of their husbands passed away and the women posed for calendar photographs to raise money for medical research. The drama will be put on by the Wyndham Theatre Company (WTC). Poster printing can be useful within the creative industries.

Margaret Hammon and Vicki Russell will star in the drama when it opens in Werribee. Hammon has acted in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and is not daunted by the prospect of playing a part in Calendar Girls. She told the Star Weekly:

“We’ve been having a lot of fun, the cast – they’re a great group of girls.”

The WTC is celebrating 50 years in the business, and the performances at Werribee’s Crossroads Theatre should help to make 2018 a special anniversary year.

Russell mentioned that she has been involved in the manufacture of props, adding that she enjoyed carrying out this task, including the production of floral arrangements.

Hammon confirmed that nudity will not be part of the performance. Like the women in real life, the actors will be partly covered up with wool or other material.
