Community conversations urged to help plan city’s future

There is a conversation brewing on the future of Footscray, and the entire City of Maribyrnong and is keen for all residents to be involved.

Mayor Cuc Lam has issued an invitation to residents to join the conversation that will ultimately help council with planning for the next 20 years.

According to the Mayor, the input received from community conversations will provide a basis for the Maribyrnong 2040 community plan. Lam says:

“The community plan will support Council’s planning of infrastructure and services for the future as well as helping to assist in deciding priorities.

“We are encouraging residents and those who live, work or study in our City to host kitchen table conversations.”

To help provide structure to the conversations, the Council has used printing services to put together `starter kits’, which include information relating to future major changes to be faced by the community within the next two decades, questions on what residents see as the ideal Maribyrnong and the best ways to achieve the right outcomes.

Council plans to reach out to all sections of the community as part of the conversation with the resulting feedback to be considered by members of a representative community panel prior to the tabling of the 2040 community plan.

The consultations, which will run from now until March this year, will also include a 'creative visioning project' in February that the Mayor hopes will be supported by all sectors in the community.
