Costco to open Epping store

Retail giant Costco will open a store in Epping as part of its expansion plans.

The Epping Costco outlet is likely to open prior to the close of the year. Plans to open stores in Perth and Brisbane have also been made by Costco. The opening of businesses can boost demand for local printing services.

Manager Patrick Noone is keen for Costco to be competitive with its rivals on price. At a corporate lunch within Melbourne, Noone explained the strategy:

“We see ourselves looking at all the key commodities and trying to grow them in the future. When we look at the dairy industry, we’d like to find a milk that’s even cheaper than what we have today but the same quality. If we can do that, we’ll do private label.”

Costco is one of the largest retailers in the world. However, it currently owns just nine Australian stores. When it comes to milk it already sells the product at a competitive price. Three litres of milk can be purchased at Costco for $2.89.

The store intends to boost its growth in Australia via an online shop. It hopes to open a large distribution centre going forward.

Noone explained that beef and chicken are exported from Australia to China. He noted that Costco plays a significant role in this activity thanks to its retail outlets within China.
