Council seeks nominations for 2017 Women of Yarra Award

The important and unique contribution made by women to the local community of Richmond and surrounding areas will be applauded as part of the 2017 Inspirational Women of Yarra Award.

Nominations are now being called from groups and independent women who study, live or work within the City of Yarra, Victoria and have contributed greatly to the community via voluntary, unpaid or paid work, or simply exhibited the ability to inspire others.

A Yarra City spokesman said it was important to recognise the 50% of the local community who are women for the significant work they undertake.

He said in many instances, their contributions go largely unheralded despite long hours of volunteer or other work that would challenge even the most demanding of business calendars.

The spokesman said a panel of judges, comprising community organisations and Council representatives, will be considering all nominations based on the inspiration, care and support they provide for others.

He urged community members to nominate an individual or group of women in the 2017 Inspirational Women of Yarra Award before the closing date of February 6 at 5:00 pm.

Nominees from previous awards, he said, are also welcome.

The award winner will be announced during a special Women’s Day celebration to be held on March 8 at the Town Hall in Richmond. Further information is available by contacting Maryanne Clarke at the City of Yarra.
