Dandenong to celebrate its young people

The logo designs of the Victorian Government and the National Youth Week 2017 will be highly visible in Dandenong and throughout the state in the lead up to the weeklong celebration that acknowledges youth.

Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams is excited about the event, which will provide an opportunity for local youth to attend National Youth Week workshops in the first step towards helping to shape and determine their futures.

As part of the event, a $2,000 grant from the State Government was received by Greater Dandenong Youth and Family Services to be put towards the Create Youth Future series of workshops.

According to Minister for Youth Affairs Jenny Mikakos MP, the Dandenong-based group was among 105 organisations across Victoria to receive up to $2,000 in funding from a total grant pool of $208,000.

Williams said the funding will enable Dandenong youth to take part in activities that improve their employability, build enterprise skills, raise aspirations and expose them to employment or education pathways. Young people, she added, will be encouraged to develop ideas and build skills.

The annual event, which this year will coincide with the inaugural Youth Summit to be held on March 31, has been described as a celebration of Australia’s young people, aged 12 to 25 years.

National Youth Week 2017, which will be held from March 31 to April 9, is supported by the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments.
