Teams battle it out in weekly Theatresports™

May 29, 2012 by

Featuring some of the best comedians from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Impro Melbourne’s latest season of Theatresports™ is underway. The Grand Final event has been set to be held at Melbourne’s grand BMW Edge stage at the iconic Federation Square on the 24th of June. However, rounds of the theatrical competition will be held at The Space in Prahran every Sunday of May and June.

Theatresports™ is a theatrical improvisation competition officially licensed by the International Theatresports™ Institute. It is conducted much like a regular sport, involving two teams competing in a series of improvisation games, such as the ‘Alphabet Game’ or ‘Word at a Time’, in order to earn points and avoid penalties. The judges or audience allocate the points, and at the end of the night, the scores are tallied and the winner is the one with the most points.

As with the Comedy Festival and other similar events, banner printing and poster printing services are often engaged to attract crowds to the event. With a whole host of Australia’s most hilarious theatrical talent including Jason Geary, who was a Champion at National Theatresports™ 2010, and Patti Stiles, revered as International ‘Queen of Impro’ and Champion of National Theatresports™ 2010, the advertising will stretch far and wide, from Hawthorn to Sunshine, from Bundoora to Springvale.

The event will be held at 7.30pm every Sunday in May and June and will cost $15 Full / $10 Conc / $10 Groups of 8+. Bookings can be made through the Impromelbourne website at

Prahran resident taking part in breath-taking circus show

May 26, 2012 by

Brittany Steffens had just finished her Publishing and Literature degree and may have been expected to go and join one of the top print companies, when she decided her career was going to go in a very different direction. Instead of pursuing the world of publishing any further, she decided to leave her home in Long Island, New York to move to Prahran to study the circus.

The National Institute of Circus Arts is located in Prahran and helps those interested in becoming part of a circus to learn the necessary and demanding skills involved. Brittany had previously practiced on the trapeze for fun but decided that it was a lot more than a hobby to her and was something she must explore further.

Brittany is now in her final year of studying Circus Studies and is getting ready to perform in the NICA production, ‘Lucy and the Lost Boy’ this June. Brittany’s circus act of choice is tissu, which is aerial acrobatics. Those practicing tissue climb, swing, wrap and fall using a tumbling piece of fabric and a Chinese spinning top that has been used for many years. Tissu is extremely impressive and always leaves audiences watching in amazement and wonder at the beauty and bravery involved.

‘Lucy and the Lost Boys’ will run from 13th June to 23rd June 2012 at NICA, Green Street, Prahran and organisers are urging people to come along. Poster and flyer printing are often used to advertise events like this and those at NICA want the local community to come out and enjoy all the circus has to offer.
