Digital world a step closer now Innovations Lab open

Balcatta and City of Stirling residents now have access to a new Innovations Lab.

Mirrabooka Library has just launched the new lab which provides an opportunity for visitors and members to experiment and learn more about the latest cutting-edge technology.

It includes an impressive list of technologies including robotics, virtual reality, 3D printing and software that can assist in everything from creating a logo design to letterheads.

Mayor Mark Irwin said the Innovations Lab will also provide visitors with an opportunity to participate in events, collaborative projects, and coordinated workshops organised by industry experts, library staff and volunteers.

He said the lab is the place for sharing, producing, creating, doing, learning and thinking in Stirling, adding:

“Not only does it have the ability to connect people from all backgrounds with technology and each other, it provides them with a physical learning space where they can create, experiment and learn, using a variety of digital tools.”

The City of Stirling Library Services Manager Viv Barton said the idea behind introducing the lab for the use of community members was to foster lifelong learning and digital literacy in a world that is continually changing, largely as a result of new technology.

She urged local schools and the community to find out more about the Innovations Lab, the programmes available, and what it had to offer.

Details on upcoming activities scheduled at the lab are available on the City of Stirling website’s What’s On Page.
