Eight-figure beach pool set to make a splash in Scarborough

Osborne Park, Western Australia residents will be among thousands living in the City of Stirling to benefit from the establishment of a beach pool, estimated to cost about $26m.

Scarborough beach is the planned location for the new pool, which Mayor Giovanni Italiano said would feature a heated 50-metre swimming pool.

He said the idea to establish a coastal pool in the area had been the subject of community lobbying for many years and he believed the location south of the surf club and amphitheatre would meet with the entire community’s approval, as would its design.

Construction of the pool is expected to begin later this year, with a completion date in late 2017.

The development will include the pool with eight lap swimming lanes, a learn-to-swim area connected to the main pool, change rooms, spectator seating, a café, and extensive shade areas for families.

Mayor Italiano extolled the beach pool as the ideal place for families heading to Scarborough for a great day out.

He said the city was committed to making Scarborough a hub of activity to be enjoyed by all ages, claiming the new beach pool would also become a magnet for tourists and make the area a top place to relax, work, live and swim all year round.

Once completed, he said, the new attraction would also be popular with postcard and brochure printers seeking to promote the area.
