Epping seniors encouraged to get fit

Older residents in Epping are being invited to find out more about healthy lifestyles later this month, when the Health and Wellbeing Expo is held in the City of Whittlesea.

The Expo will focus on the ways in which older people can maintain a healthy lifestyle even later in life. During the event, participants will be able to try out some new activities, many of which are offered in Whittlesea on a regular basis.

Demonstrations and taster classes include Tai Chi, pet therapy, art workshops and laughter yoga. Many of the activities are designed specifically to be accessible to people who have limited mobility and lower fitness levels. Classes also focus on both physical and emotional well-being.

Local printing companies have been called on to produce a new brochure listing activities available to seniors in the area. The guide, which is called Let’s Get Physical – Active Seniors Guide was the idea of the City of Whittlesea council and lists all of the regular activities and organised exercise classes for older people.

The Expo will be held at the Epping Memorial Hall on Thursday June 27th and will be open from 10:00am until 2:00pm. Tickets will cost $5 each. Admission includes all activities, entertainment and lunch. A range of spot prizes will also be awarded during the day.

Tickets can be booked in advance by contacting the Positive Ageing Team on 9407 5913. A limited number of tickets can also be purchased on the day.
