Epping to warm up vocal cords

Epping residents are invited to share the festive spirit of the Annual Carols by Candlelight at Redleap Reserve, Mill Park.

The free event is held each year by the City of Whittlesea to bring the entire community together for a fun night of carol singing and entertainment for all ages.

The 6.2 hectare park is itself a well-used community venue that hosts a huge array of facilities including a lake, playgrounds, bike and walking paths, cricket and football oval, basketball stadium and barbecues.

A Whittlesea Council spokesman said Carols by Candlelight provides an opportunity for the entire family to relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

He said a host of free entertainment has been organised to suit all ages ranging from art workshops and face-painting to an animal farm and live nativity scene.

The 30-member Diamond Valley Brass Band, which has featured on poster printing for major community events many times since its formation in 1979, will perform live on stage.

A consistent achiever in National Brass Band Championships, the group has also performed with popular Australian celebrities including Johnny Young, Denise Drysdale, Frankie J Holden and Rhonda Burchmore.

The carols entertainment programme will also feature the Community Carols Choir and a special appearance by Santa and his elves.

Food trucks will be available on the night of the event, which is this Friday, December 8, from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
