Experience magic of Godspell in the Garden

Godspell in the Garden is set to recreate the magic of the original Broadway hit on local soil in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.

The event, staged by the Australian Shakespeare Company and Simon Myer, attracted sellout crowds from locations throughout the city’s metropolitan area including Clifton Hill, which overlooks the gardens, when it was first presented early last year.

Myer said the latest production has been reimagined to include a modern musical composition, urban acrobatics and street dance, but still remains faithful to the original 1971 show on Broadway.

Poster printing to advertise the event also promotes a more contemporary approach to the musical, which will feature a stellar cast led by Australia’s Got Talent’s Bonnie Anderson, Mark Dickinson and Louisa Fitzhardinge.

One thing audiences will remember well, according to Myer, is the huge number of classic hits such as The Way of the Lord, Day By Day, Save The People and By My Side, to name a few.

The performances, to be held on February 12 and 19 at the Royal Botanic Gardens has, according to Myer, allowed director Glenn Elston to take advantage of his passion for open air theatre.

He said the highly anticipated latest production of Godspell promises to deliver songs and text in a fresh new light and can be enjoyed by family members of all ages.
