Festive theme lights up shopfront windows in Whitehorse

Christmas cheer is being spread across Box Hill South and throughout the City of Whitehorse as businesses light up their windows with innovative festive decorations.

Signs, postcards and brochures feature amid an eye-catching array of Christmas lights and sparkles as business owners participate in this year’s Festive Window Dressing Competition, run by Whitehorse City Council.

According to Whitehorse Councillor Tina Liu, no expense has been spared as the city’s retail and commercial enterprises get into the Christmas spirit, adding an infectious festive atmosphere for visitors and shoppers to enjoy.

Cr Liu said the festive cheer is not only attractive but encourages residents to explore new outlets and shop locally, effectively boosting the economy.

She said the annual competition has always enjoyed great popularity and the efforts of those participating have produced some outstanding displays in recent years.

Favourite displays are nominated by traders and local shoppers in the competition, with independent shop owners also permitted to vote for their own window display, said Cr Liu.

She said a fabulous range of prizes was up for grabs to encourage participation by as many retailers as possible.

The visual impact, theme, use of colour and the most creative presentations will all be considered by the judges after the competition closes on December 16.

A free Visual Merchandising handbook is available from council for any business seeking added inspiration in designing their shopfronts in a festive theme.
