Free presentation to focus on benefits of solar power

Homeowners looking at lowering energy costs by putting in a solar photovoltaic system can gain some insight into the procedure at a free community presentation in Caulfield.

The event, staged by Glen Eira City Council, will be hosted by Andrew Reddaway of the Alternative Technology Association.

Reddaway said he will guide attendees through the rooftop solar photovoltaic system installation process, as well as provide an introduction to the storage technology of batteries.

He said the topic, which has often been the focus of booklet printing, has drawn great interest from the community and he hoped to cover many points of interest.

These include the selection of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on the market, expenditure required, an estimate on the payback period, as well as the feed-in tariffs.

Reddaway suggested people take along their note pads to also jot down information about installation, connection to the grid, ongoing maintenance, and current technology for battery storage.

He said the PV technology has provided power to homes successfully in Australia for many years.

The availability of long hours of sunlight, he said, provides the ideal opportunity for homeowners to benefit greatly from the installation of solar panels.

The Theatrette at Glen Eira City Council in Caulfield will host the presentation to be held on Tuesday, December 6, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Bookings for the event are essential and can be made by contacting the sustainability education officer at the Council.
