Free screening at Vision Australia Open Day

Vision Australia Caringbah will be holding an open day in March to showcase its support services for the blind and visually impaired.

The open day provides an opportunity for people with low vision to learn what devices and services are available to help them live a full and independent life.

There will be a cooking demonstration where people can learn about different kitchenware to make working in the kitchen safer and easier. Visitors will be able to experience the latest technological advances through equipment demonstrations.

Experts will be on hand to advise about accessing different services such as assistive technology training, occupational therapy, orientation and mobility, children’s services and orthoptist services. Free vision screening will be available.

Visitors will be able to shop for technology and other aids, with the opportunity to try before they buy. There will be a range of magnifiers and devices with large buttons or different colourways to help with particular vision problems. An audible soccer ball, raised dot dominoes or Braille dice, playing cards, Monopoly and Scrabble allow vision-impaired people to enjoy their favourite games. Printing services create a variety of books in extra-large print or braille to assist those with low vision.

The open day will be held on Thursday 7th March from 10am to 1pm at Vision Australia Caringbah. There will be morning tea and a lucky door prize of an iPhone 6.
